Best Practices for Operating Teams
Process Outline

This outline will assist you in chartering a Best Practices Meeting. It is intended for use with Operating Teams. However it will work for any group.

This process evolved over a few years. We consistently evaluated and refined our process to fit the needs of our Operating Department. You will need to do the same. There is enough flexibility in the process for you to tailor the event to your individual groups.

The benefit that is derived from these sessions is immeasurable. In these sessions, the Operators identify problem areas, work toward agreement, develop solutions and develop implementation plans. Some of the major benefits you will see:

  • Development of informal leaders in your work group.
  • Ownership of the solutions belongs to the teams.
  • Allows you to give the operators some control of their environment.
  • Commits the Operating Teams to actions rather than a few individuals
  • Allows consensus building during the meeting.
  • Delivery of a consistent message from the meeting.
  • Celebration and acknowledgement of the Operating Team's skills.
