The idea of oxygen gas removal with the least amount of steam consumption is noble and everybody's ultimate goal. Splitting the oxygen venting and steam test is proper. There is no universal way and time duration. Some use 5 minutes and others just observe the steam going out of the vent line i.e., when solid white gas is coming out they close the vent valves and proceed with steam test. Some has transition between a subcontractor & owner's group responsibility once the Coke drum pressure is 50% of the total steam test pressure. It is always a good practice not to skip a step for removal of oxygen in the coke drum is beneficial for the fractionator. Remove oxygen gas AMAP before warm to BDC because during emergency condition switching could occur when CD is on warm to BDC.
