I worked a Merox treating plant that had similar issues - we burned the off-gas in a waste burner in the coker furnace. Due to the ever present sulfur / liquid carryover issues, we piped the off-gas to the relief system where we compressed it for re-use as fuel gas (after a sulfur removal process). The infamous shake test is really accurate if you can actually see the color shift - that may not be easy if the Merox caustic is already dark. Our method was to fill half the bottle and shake for 60 seconds...expecting to see a colr shift at 30 seconds if the Merox catalyst was working well. If it takes longer, you may need to increase catalyst load, or air rate. If it was much shorter than 30 seconds, there may be excess O2 in the caustic. Hope this helps.
